Does anyone have any experience using a manure spreader with a 4100. I have a small barn where we keep three horses and was think it would be useful to dump the muck in the spreader and then use the tractor to put it on the field.I saw a small one in Northern Tool but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this piece of equipment.Thanks.

Unless you live where you would never want to stack manure do not buy a ground drive spreader. Many people buy the 50bushel spreader for that size tractor. ....

I'm curious Art, what's the reasoning behind your statement about ground drive spreaders? Also, a note to the original poster, no matter what type of spreader you get, resist the urge to "store" your manure in it until it's full enough to spread. The acids in the manure will eat the spreader long before it's time. ....

You may want to check out Millcreek Mfg. They list several different models of compact manure spreaders. One model is a 44 cu. ft. unit for 20hp tractors that is either ground drive or PTO. No experience with them, just noticed them while surfing. ....

Paul, I know before I brought this up and it's only because we live in NY and we can't always do what we like when we want. We often have enough snow that you can't run the fields where you want do to the snow depth. A pto drive will unload anywhere anytime.. Ground drive will slip on slippery surfaces. ....

Thanks for the advice on PTO vs Ground Driven. I think I will try and get a PTO model. MillCreek looks pretty good and only a couple of hours from where I live. ....

I was recently in a Tractor Supply Co. store and they had a real cute little ground driven manure spreader (4 wheel wagon type) made to pull behind a riding lawn mower. ....

Ah. That makes sense. With my little operation, I only spread about 4-5 loads a year, and I "compost" all my manure over the winter/spring/summer, and spread it on the pastures in early fall, so traction is not an issue. My old John Deere Model H ground drive works just dandy. Thanks for replying. ....

If you end up with a ground driven sppreader make sure to keep the axle well lubricated. These can burn out quickly. ....
